Message for our Deaf Community in Texas

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: Why did Sorenson acquire CAAG’s services?

A: Over the past several years, Sorenson expanded its trusted network of interpreting services beyond Video Relay Service (VRS) to include community interpreting (SCIS). As a part of our community interpreting services, Sorenson acquired CAAG and its presence in Texas.  SCIS is committed to serving the Deaf community in Texas by bringing on the talents and expertise of CAAG's founders and employees.
Q: Will my interpreters, local coordinators, or other CAAG support services change?

A: No. We anticipate the interpreters, local coordinators and resource specialists will continue with Sorenson. We also aim to keep the things the same.
Q: With this change, do I need to do anything? What information do I give the entity (school, dentist, legal office) that needs to request an interpreter or other services for me?

A: No. You do not need to do anything – Sorenson will fulfill all contracts serviced by CAAG.  Scheduling interpreting services is the responsibility of the requesting entity (school, dentist, legal office, etc.)  - they would be responsible to contact Sorenson Community Interpreting Services (SCIS). However, you can assist by referring the person requesting the interpreter to the SCIS website: www.scis.com.

Q: How will Sorenson ensure that I have the same level of service that I had in the past?

A: Sorenson and CAAG are committed to providing the same level of service you have come to expect. Sorenson is one of the largest U.S. employers of Deaf people, and is the largest U.S. employer of sign language interpreters. It’s anticipated this broad footprint will benefit customers who have more choices in interpreter and customer service options.

Q: If CAAG already knows my preferences, do I need to give this information to Sorenson, now that Sorenson has acquired CAAG?

A: Sorenson will work with the CAAG team to retain your preferences in our system as we transition all of CAAG’s lines of service – interpreting and state service programs. Please feel free to contact SCIS with any questions you have through our VP consumer line in ASL: 844-720-1891.
